I'm about to take up a position which is going to be deamed by some,
if not all, as a terrible stand to take. As a matter of fact, if anyone were
to agree with me on ths subject, I'd be surprsed. For you see, rather than
arguing from the postion of suicide being an unjustified and inane way to
die, I shall argue the other point. That being suicide does have its merits.
Before you people start screaming, hear my case out. Most people
argue that nothing justifies the taking of someone's life. Yet what makes
life so valuable? Why do people cling to it so? All we consist of is a bunch
of carbon atoms, bound together to form an exoskeleton, organs, and tissue.
In this light, there really is not much to life. Out of the 5 billion who
inhabit the planet, very few of them shall emerge to be true world leaders.
The rest will just lead a mediocre life of work and little play.
The taking of ones life can be argued from a populistic view as well.
It makes little sense to preserve life in an over populated world. True, one
less person here on there will not make a large dent. Yet if everyone who
attempts or had attempted suicide were not stopped, the impact would be
Another popular argument for stoppers, people who want to prevent
suicide, is that nothing can be bad enough. Yet how do they know this? They
do not have to put up with the same stuff the suicide victim does everyday.
How could they possibly know what the potential suicide victim feels. Just
as a severely burned victim may wish to be allowed to die in peace, the
suicide victim wishes the same. To die in peace with no argument from
The argument of "look at the people you will hurt" also does not
hold. Imidiate family members will be the only ones to suffer any great pain.
Friends will go on with thier lives and in time forget about the death.
Imidiate family too will forget the loss in time. Although it will take most
considerably longer for them than it will for friends.
Finaly, the argument of suicide being selfish is hard to grasp.
Selfish in whose eyes? Certainly not the eyes of the victim. To them, they
consider it selfish of others to try and preserve their life. Again, the
argument of the stoppers don't know what the victim has to go through. They
are not the ones enduring the pain.
Religious people also crop up into the debate. Catholics claim that
for someone to committ suicide sneds their soul straight to Hell. In many
religions, suicide is considered taboo. However why is this so? Why should it
be looked upon as disgracefull, when some religions claim death the be the
reward for people after their time on earth is done.
Suicide is an issue which should be examined at by all angles. Not
just from the angle that it is "wrong". End of debate. Rather it should be
looked at from the point of view that "yes" for some people, they should be
allowed to die in peace.

Power Of PeoplePower of People There are times throughout the history of the United States when it's citizens have felt the need to revolt against the government. One way they might revolt against the government is to disregard the law peacefully. There was such a case during the time of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., when there was unfair discrimination against the African American community. They used peaceful protests to eventually get legislation passed to stop the injustice brought against them. Another name
The Original Sources Of Romeo And JulietThe Original Sources of Romeo and Juliet There were many other written stories of Romeo and Juliet before William Shakespeare first wrote his version of Romeo and Juliet (Watts 13). The earliest rendition of the play Romeo and Juliet dates back to the third century AD. Then the story reappears in the fifteenth century in a more detailed form. Luigi da Porto publishes a version of this story in 1530. De Porto's play version is where Shakespeare gets the plot of his version of Romeo and Juliet (Be

In the beginning of the play Macbeth seems to be the genuine hero, and generally he is a good man. Macbeth even praises Duncan at certain points before he murders him. Kantian Philosophy Of MoralityKantian Philosophy of Morality Kantian philosophy outlines the Universal Law Formation of the Categorical Imperative as a method for determining morality of actions. Anais NinAnais Nin Anais Nin was a passionate woman, not only in her works but also in her life. The fact that she lived life to the fullest is what made her books so intriguing. Although her diaries were a chronicle of her experience, her fiction showed the reader sides of her while displaying everyone's innermost desires. In her own words Nin says, the role of the writer is not to say what we can all say, but what we are unable to say (Rollins), and she does exactly that. For this reason her works ta

The Tragedy Of MacbethThe Tragedy of Macbeth The Tragedy of Macbeth is plagued with the images that coincide with its many themes. Although there is really no central theme and all seem to intermingle, it would be extremely difficult to research the play in its entirety. Therefore, I've chosen to focus my study towards the recurring image of blood and how it's presence affected both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth and the eventual outcome of the play. The blood images in the play had different effects on the two. But perhap

Romeo And JulietRomeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare's plays about tragedy. It is about two lovers who commit suicide when their feuding famillies prevent them from being together. Friar Lawrence does not have very much time on stage but the time he does have is crucial to the plot line. Through his words Friar Lawren
The Tragedy Of HamletThe Tragedy of Hamlet Arguably the best piece of writing ever done by William Shakespeare, Hamlet the is the classic example of a tragedy. In all tragedies the hero suffers, and usually dies at the end. Othello stabs himself, Romeo and Juliet commit suicide, Brutis falls on his sword, and like them Hamlet dies by getting cut with a poison tipped sword. But that is not all that is needed to consider a play a tragedy, and sometimes a hero doesn't even need to die. Making Not every play in which a

Even though D-Day was considered a massacre, the invasion aided the US?s ultimate victory. D-Day happened on June 6, 1944. It was one of the darkest days i

Blood And WaterBlood and Water In William Shakespeare's masterpiece Macbeth, he uses many motifs. Two of these motifs are blood and water. The play is full of images of blood and water, to show the characters' attitudes toward their own guilt at each stage. Both motifs mature and change in their meaning along with the setting and mood of the play. The functions of both are important if the subtleties of the play are to be understood. Blood symbolizes honor, treachery, and guilt. Water symbolizes cleanliness of

King LearKing Lear King Lear Historians en masse have determined that Shakespeare was most definitely not the first one to come up with the general plot lines contained in King Lear. Though the play revolves mainly around the conflict between the King and his daughters, there is a definite and distinct sub-plot dealing with the plight and tragedy of Gloucester as well. The play (both stories really) has origins in many different sixteenth century works, with nearly all the pertinent facts such as the nam

Compare The Awakening To Madame BovaryCompare The Awakening to Madame Bovary Kate Chopin's The Awakening and Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary are both tales of women indignant with their domestic situations; the distinct differences between the two books can be found in the authors' unique tones. EuthanasiaEuthanasia Euthanasia, which means good or peaceful death, has been practiced through the ages. Doctors have always been dedicated to the task of easing pain and suffering, to make dying easier. Adding the adjective active alters the meaning of euthanasia. The emphasis shifts from comforting the dying to inducing death. The practice of voluntary euthanasia and assisted suicide would cause society to devalue all life, especially the lives of the dying, the disabled, and the elderly. We shou
The Inefficiency Of U.S. High SchoolsThe Inefficiency of U.S. High Schools U.S. high schools are not properly preparing kids for the college experience. The primary purpose of a high school in the United States is to get kids into college. The courses taught in U.S. high schools are way too lenient in their grading policies and offer students much leeway. High school courses are too lenient because high school teachers make them that way. One good example that proves just how much leeway secondary education offers students is that
